A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE MR. MISHSHO GERMANO NATI
(Died March 17, 2008);
in the prison-cell of the PFDJ's regime of Ato Isaias Afwerki.
A SUMMARY OF THE LATE MR. MISHSHO GERMANO NATI'S
CURRICULUM
VITAE The VKP/KAM: ( August 6, 2009).
The
late Mr. Mishsho
Germano Nati initiated his pre-and-elementary schooling in the
Catholic Mission school of Ebarò in 1957/58. He then attended the middle
secondary school, from 1963 to 1966,
St. Francis of Assisi School in Massawa.
From
1966 to 1971, he studied
Accounting at the Vittorio Bottego
Institute in Asmara .
From
1971 to 1976, he worked for
Barattolo Cotton Company at SIA
(Societá Imprese Africane) in Ali Gidir.
In 1976,
he was arrested, accused of supporting the
ELF (Eritrean
Liberation Front), and sent to the
Sembel prison in Asmara ,
together with another Kunama by the name of
Giacomo Anja.
In the
same year, 1976, the ELF (Eritrean
Liberation Front) stormed the
Sembel prison and freed all
the prisoners.
There were four
Kunama people:
Fait Tingga Longgi, Germano Nati,
Giacom Anja and Osman Dalab.
The ELF
gave the freed prisoners the choice either to follow it in the struggle
for the Eritrean independence or to decide to return to their own native
regions.
Fait Tingga Longgi, Giacomo Anja, and Osman Dalab went back home whereas the
late Mr. Mishsho
Germano Nati chose to follow
the Liberation
Movement and joined the
Eritrean
People's
Liberation
Front (EPLF).
After
about 4 years,Mr. Mishsho Germano
Nati, the late Mr. Osea
Dumam Shabbi and Ms Dahab Fait Tingga were sent to Kassala
(The Sudan) to mobilise the Kunama residents there and those frequenting
the market places of Kassala.
After
the expulsion of the ELF by the EPLF forces in the 1980s, Mishsho
Germano Nati was sent to Dokinbia (
Eritrea ), to mobilise the Kunama people to get to know the EPLF,
which politics and political message they had never heard of.
The western lowland of Eritrea had only known and supported
the ELF.
Not so
long after, Dahab Fait Tingga
and the late Mr. Osea Dumam
Shabbi too were transferred to Dokinbia to support
Mishsho Germano Nati. These three were involved in the
instruction of the Kunama people in the Shabia political doctrines.
Already
at that time, the conflict between some members of the Eritrean-Tigrian
and the late Mr. Mishsho Germano
Nati, who could not see and stand the injustices being
carried out by Shabia's regime on the Kunama people, became evident. In
order to render the life of the
Kunama people still
more difficult, the Shabia's regime had formed a group of bandits, from
within its own forces, who would raid the Kunama live-stock, take it to
The Sudan and sell it in the market places of Kassala.
Mr. Mishsho Germano got aware
of the tricks of the Shabia's regime and tried to protect the Kunama as
they reported to him that the
“Dala”
(Eritrean Tigrians) kept raiding their live-stock”.
To verify their claims, the Kunama travelled to Kassala and found a lot
of their cattle being traded in the market.
Beginning already in those days, the Shabia had used all kinds of
strategies to oppress, make the Kunama people suffer and abandon their
native territory.
In
order to have a free hand, the Shabia had to eliminate either the late
Mr. Mishsho
Germano Nati
or the
late Mr.
Osea Dumam.
It
happened that, one day, the bandits, as usual, had raided the Kunama
cattle from the southern parts of Dokinbia and, expecting the
intervention of the Kunama, among them either the late Mr.
Mishsho
Germano Nati or the late Mr.
Osea Dumam, they had occupied strategic positions to challenge them. The
late Mr. Osea Dumam
happened to be among the Kunama and the first bullet shot by the bandits
hit him deadly. The bandits then fled. Many eye-witnesses confirmed that
the late Mr. Osea Dumam’s death had
been deliberately planned and carried out by the Shabia themselves.
Mr. Mishsho
Germano Nati was left alone,
but through his courage and tenacity he managed to protect the Kunama
till independence. The Shabia however had always tried to eliminate Mr.
Mishsho Germano Nati too.
After
independence, the late Mr. Mishsho
Germano Nati
was appointed the governor of the Kunama Land with seat in Barentu
(Biara). At his side were also Ibrahim Mr. Ibrahim
Totil and Mr.
Salvatore Nati Ibrahim.
The
Shabia's strategy had soon begun to create intrigues and conflicts among
the Kunama people themselves. Mr. Ibrahim Totil and Mr.
Nati Ibrahim rose
against the late Mr. Mishsho Germano Nati. After 4 years of continuous
struggle to defend and protect the rights of the Kunama people, a clique
of ill-intentioned individuals from the Shabia leadership led by the
worst enemy of the Kunama people, Al
Said Mustafa Nur-Hussein, had managed to isolate, denigrate
and depose the late Mr. Mishsho
Germano Nati from the post of the governorship of the Kunama
Land. Mr. Mishsho Germano Nati
refused to work under Mustafa Nur-Hussein, because, specifically, Al
Said Mustafa Nurhussein was one who was, not only brutally oppressing
the Kunama people, but also searching in the worst
and
possible manners, to get rid of the late Mr.
Mishsho Germano Nati declined
all other posts offered him by the Shabia and chose to live in Barentu
as an ordinary citizen. His presence in Barentu however was of a great
disturbance to the Shabia in general and and to Al Said Mustafa
Nurhussein in particular.
After
many years, Ato Isaias Afwerki called up the late Mr.
Mishsho Germano Nati,
appointed him as governor and sent him to the Afar Land , though he
neither spoke nor understood the Afari language. Not yet happy with the
late Mr. Mishsho Germano Nati's
presence in Eritrea, the Shabia's regime sent him to England, with the
excuse of offering him a chance to learn the English language, but deep
down hoping that he would not return to Eritrea. During his absence, As
Said Mustafa Nur-Hussein could do whatever he liked to ill-treat the
Kunama people. As soon as the late Mr.
Mishsho Germano Nati returned
from England , he went down to Barentu to visit his family-members and
the Kunama immediately reported to him that Al Said Mustafa Nurhussein
was committing too many injustices against them. Returning back to
Asmara on his way
to Assab, he presented himself to Ato Isaias Afwerki and told him of the
difficulties the Kunama people were facing under the administration of
Al Said Mustafa Nur-Hussein. Ato Isaias Afwerki was reported to have
retorted that, only he (Germano)
was often complaining on behalf of the Kunama, but not the Kunama people
themselves. With that response, Ato Isaias Afwerki had clearly
demonstrated his categorical refusal to consider the late Mr. Miashsho Germano Nati’s
appeal on behalf of his Kunama ethnic group.
Ato
Isaias Afwerki and his PFDJ regime's comrades had always kept some
distance from the late Mr. Mishsho
Germano Nati because of his sincere concerns for the welfare
and well-being of his Kunama people.
In
September 2001, the late Mr. Mishsho Germano Nati was detained, together
with the members of the G-11 and thrown into jail for supporting to
promote democracy and the legitimate democratic rights of the Eritrean
people.

EDITORIAL NOTES:
1.-
After elevating its prayers to the Almighty God that give eternal and
peaceful rest to the soul of our fellow-Kunama ethnic-group's member,
the late Mr. Mishsho Germano Nati,
the team of the Voice of
the Kunama
People/Kunama
Agara
Mena (VKP/KAM),
in the name of its Kunama people and in its own name, very officially
accuses the PFDJ's regime of Ato Isaias Afwerki to assume the full
responsibility of having very cruelly and cynically subjected the late
Mr. Mishsho Germano Nati, to inhumane suffering and methodically
murdered him.
2.-
We Kunama retain Al-Said Mustafa-Nur-Hussein to have been the prime
architect of the ethnic-cleansing activities against the Kunama people,
which have today reached their highest level and are being committed in
very open and numerous manner.
3.-
We accuse Al-Said Mustafa Nur-Hussein
of having been the implacable enemy of the late
Mr. Mishsho Germano Nati and
grudged him his being a Kunama ethnic-group's member, hated, persecuted
and eventually masterminded his expulsion from his own native and
ancestral Kunama Land and, in the end, led him into facing the most
cruel kinds of deaths.
Finally,
to Al-Said. Mustafa
Nur-Hussein:
let us
tell you bluntly, Sir, that, the Kunama people and the Kunama land have
today reached their present lowest social, cultural, human and economic
levels of catastrophe, because of your initial poisonously
ill-intentioned plans to wage an all-out war to destroy the entire
Kunama race.
You
have the biggest share in the injustices and criminalities the Shabia's
regime has been committing against the Kunama people, both as
individuals, as communities and as an ethnic group.
Do
remember, Sir, that the Kunama people have a great respect for human
life which is the reason keeping them from harming you and others now,
but be warned that extreme reactions are not to be totally discarded for
all times and from all human-beings. You assume a dual responsibility of
the Kunama people's plights, both as an individual force as well as a
member of the PFDJ's regime.
